ONE SHOW ONLY, 28th July as part of ‘Cabaret in The Day’
BROADWAY BARD
Written and Directed by Melvyn Morrow
Presented by Popinjay Productions and Mosman Art Gallery
Starring Julian Kuo
Musical Direction by Mark Chamberlain
If Shakespeare were alive today, commercial genius that he was, he’d be writing blockbuster musicals – which is exactly what we have him do. Each famous soliloquy is topped by the Broadway showstopper he would love to have written.
‘Imagine watching many of Shakespeare’s major themes with a Broadway show tune. You’re right, it’s almost unimaginable: seeing is the only possible believing. At its best, and in Kuo’s care, it is transporting and deeply moving. At its worst? There is no worst. It’s, by turns, sad, poignant, bitter, twisted, sarcastic. And downright hilarious.’
